Iraq, Afghanistan & The Global War on Terror
A Briefing by U.S. Central Command
|
|
Please
join us for this briefing by
Major General
Michael J. Diamond
United States Army
U.S. Central Command.
The
U.S. Central
Command is essentially, the "War Fighting Command" of the U.S.
military. It
is from its
location in in Tampa, FL and the forward headquarters in Qatar, that
the U.S. military runs operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, the Horn of
Africa and all throughout its 27-country area of responsibility.
The
global war on terror is bigger than the car bomb newspegs in Iraq and
Afghanistan and will take a long time and concerted approach using all
elements of national power to address. The United States and its
partners are attacking terrorists both at home and abroad, denying
terrorists sanctuary and sponsorship, disrupting the financing of
terror, and building and maintaining a united global front against
terrorism.
Major General Diamond
will provide context into operations in Iraq and
Afghanistan and how they relate to the broader war as well as discuss
the nature of the enemy and progress and challenges in the way ahead.
